Installation Instructions for SB and AO

Open CD Folder

Step Zero: To install and work with Shabda-Brahma (SB) version 5.x or Abhibhavak Organizer (AO) version 3.0, you need to have Windows 95 or a higher version of Microsoft Windows as your operating system, in a PC  with a Pentium II (400 MHz) or a faster processor with at least 32 MB RAM and connected to preferably a color monitor (VDU), and in which there is at least 15 MB each of disk space free in the hard disk drive you install SB or AO into. These hardware criteria mentioned here are, however, over-satisfied with an extremely wide margin in most PCs nowadays, while Windows 95 or a higher version of Microsoft Windows is the operating system in most PCs around the world. In addition, you need to also have your monitor (VDU) screen resolution tuned in to at least 800 by 600 pixels with the Windows Display Font Size kept as Small Fonts/ Normal. These factors however, already remain so in most modern computers.

Still, you should ascertain about these factors in the computer, particularly about the related pair of Screen Resolution (Screen Area in Windows terminology) and Display Font Size factors if you get an error message 'row or column position is off the screen' while trying to install AO or SB as per the instructions. To check about this related pair of factors, close all windows and programs to view the Windows Desktop, then right-click at an empty space and click at Properties. Alternatively, click at the Control Panel, then click at Display. In the resulting Display Properties Window, click at Settings Tab. Ascertain whether the Screen Area is at least 800 by 600 pixels. If not, change it to 800 by 600 pixels. Next, click the Advanced button to ascertain whether the Font Size is set to Small Fonts or Normal. If not, do it so. If you've made any change(s), click at Apply, then at OK. If you're asked to restart the computer, do so.

In addition, to successfully work with SB with proper export-facility for the typed text, one must have at least either Internet Explorer or Microsoft FrontPage (or FrontPage Express) installed in the computer, and recognized by SB as well. So, while just before authentication while installing SB, if the IE finds that the installed SB is unable (and even could not be made able to do so by invoking the Fonts etc. Settings Wizard via FHG Menu in the Demo form of SB) to recognize at least either of these two importers (FP/ IE), he/ she should refuse to authenticate SB till one of these are properly installed.

Step One: Now get the installation CD and Floppy (or Zip) disks, along with the registration code supplied to you, ready. Also find the Windows Username used in the computer. This is the username that you come across whenever you turn the computer on, and can be readily observed by clicking at the familiar Start button lying on the left-bottom corner, when the menu option Log Off Username... will be shown. If the username is not known by the users, then the computer might not have any - in that case, ignore it! Insert the CD into the appropriate drive, and wait for this file to automatically be opened (as you are reading this file now, you must have already done so). Now you may double-click at the My Computer icon, then again right-click at the icon for the CD drive (say E: or F:) and select the open option, then locate the file named AO3Setup or SB4Setup there that can install AO or SB respectively, and double-click the desired file to start the installation, but the easiest way is to just click at any of the six hyperlinks shown just below:

INSTALL SB   INSTALL SB   INSTALL SB         INSTALL AO   INSTALL AO   INSTALL AO

(After clicking there, choose the option of "Run this program from ....", if and when asked.)

Step Two: Follow the screen instructions to proceed with the installation. Click OK to most questions unless there is/are some specific problem(s) about that. In the Name and Organization Information Box, you must fill in the end-user's name (or anything the user prefers), if that is not already there. In one place you'll be asked to click at a large button showing a picture of a computer, then click there. In AO, if you are asked to choose the hard-disk drive, press Space to let the program itself choose the drive. When you're asked about the Windows username, type that and press Enter (if the Windows username is not known, just press Enter). About agreeing to the license agreement, type YES (not just Y) and press Enter (after allowing the user to read the agreement). When asked about the registration code, see it from the label of the floppy (or zip) diskette and type it carefully, then press Enter. In case of SB, you need to additionally type in a nickname for the installed copy of SB: let the end-user to choose a nickname (within 8 characters). After that, insert the floppy (or zip) diskette in the appropriate drive, let the ESS Installation Expert (IE) type in the 6-character secret IE code, and then press Enter twice to complete the installation.

If you find that the Desktop link-file (icon) is NOT automatically appearing at the Windows Desktop, open the working folder (e.g., C:\SB4th for SB, or C:\Abhibhavak for AO) of the program (starting from My Computer), and copy the link-file (icon) from there to the Windows Desktop. If you're not the user, show the user how she can run the program just by double-clicking at that Desktop icon.

Step Three: If you're installing AO, open the Windows Task Scheduler (say, from My Computer), and add a scheduled task that would open the main working file (i.e., generally C:\Abhibhavak\DontOpen\AO.exe) of Abhibhavak daily at one or two suitable timing(s) (as desired by the user), when the computer is most likely to be kept ON and attended. If you're not the user, inform him that when the battery for the processor clock is down, Abhibhavak won't be able to remind the user properly, in that case a new battery has to be installed. If there will be more than 20 users sharing Abhibhavak in the same computer, you may copy the contents of the \Abhibhavak folder to some other newly created folder(s), and create link files & scheduled tasks for each of the DontOpen\AO.exe files so as to make multiple Abhibhavaks in the same computer, under any mutual agreement that you may enter with the buyer(s) or users.

If you're installing SB, and the user intends to use the multilingual facility with Assamese, Bengali or Hindi etc. non-English language(s), be sure to get the relevant true-type fonts installed. To do so, open Control Panel, open Fonts therein (switch to Classic interface for Control Panel in case of Windows XP etc.), and then Click at File, then at Install New Fonts, then choose the appropriate file for the relevant font.

If you're not the user, you should teach the user how to copy the Backup subfolder (or its zipped form) into a floppy diskette, say into the one already used for authentication, so as to protect her work from any hard-disk failure. She should also be told how to access the exhaustive help-file (of SB or AO) to clarify any point (the simplest way of doing this is to press the Page-Up key while in the main opening screen of SB or AO).

In case of a failed authentication in SB or AO, you may try to authenticate again simply by running Shabda-Brahma or Abhibhavak, as is the case.

Question: How to distinguish between an SB registration code and an AO registration code?
If the inside number is between 1000 & 1500, it's an SB registration code. If that is between 1500 & 2000, it's an AO code.
